EXTERIOR CASE STUDY
DESIGN CHALLENGES
We were faced with dull white ceramic tiles, black trellis walls and a black tiled swimming pool. Water penetration and “concrete cancer” were lifting tiles and causing damage to the garage below. This harbor-side property needed a scheme robust enough to stand excessive heat, damp and salt water. I wanted to create a space with strong points of interest as one entered the property and interesting view lines from inside.
SOLUTION
The entire area was stripped, tanked and the concrete cancer treated. We made channels for the problem water source to be diverted. We selected Egyptian limestone, the black pool tiles were replaced with handmade Italian glass mosaic.
DESIGN
The seating area lacked privacy, so a screening water wall was created with rippling water effect and illuminated at night. The entrance water-feature was replaced with a fine sculpture and water wall. All water features filter through one integrated system.
